The Westchester County Board of Legislators has scheduled a public hearing for June 3 on the amended legislation that would prohibit discrimination against renters who rely on government income, including Section 8 vouchers.
The 2009 fair housing settlement requires that the county executive promote the so-called source-of-income legislation. He vetoed it in 2010 and lost the argument in federal court on whether the veto violated the settlement. The Board of Legislators made two changes to the bill language at a committee meeting last week, including increasing the size of buildings that fall under the law from four units to six units.
The hearing will be at 7:30 p.m. at the county office building, 148 Martine Ave. in White Plains. A vote could be held June 17 and the bill is expected to pass.
