Sen. Greg Ball, R-Patterson, Putnam County, ripped the changes to the SAFE-Act early this morning, calling it “crap.”
Ball blasted the Senate’s decision at 2 a.m. to amend the gun-control law passed in January to exempt retired police officers from the seven-bullet limit on magazines. Ball said the late-night vote is aimed limiting debate, and the changes won’t make the heavily criticized law much better.
“There’s a difference between working through the night and this crap. This is ridiculous,” Ball said.
Ball said homeowners should have also been exempted from the magazine limit, which had been 10 bullets before the law change in January.
“I’m glad Senator Golden can protect his family,” Ball said, referring to Sen. Marty Golden, R-Brooklyn, a retired police officer. “How about the victim of domestic violence in her home, who now doesn’t have a home exemption?”
Ball also said the GOP conference will be “ripped apart” because of the vote, and blamed Gov. Andrew Cuomo for the whole discord.
