The state Public Service Commission said today it will extend a public comment period until July 31 on plans to add another area code in the 315 area-code region, which covers the Syracuse area and parts of 18 counties.
Because the area code is running out of numbers, the state started the process of getting a new area code in the region in 2007. The plan stalled, but was restarted earlier this year and is set to take effect in 2015.
The state reopened the comment period until July 15, and today extended it until the end of the month.
