State comptroller OK’s Yonkers budget

YONKERS — The state Comptroller’s Office has signed off on the city’s $991 million budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year that began today. Read the letter here.

State law gives the Comptroller’s Office authority to review Yonkers’ finances because of the city’s history of financial distress.

The Yonkers City Council unanimously approved the budget May 31. It comes with a 1.75 percent tax rate increase and creates 24 city jobs while avoiding layoffs.

  1. What good is a “Controller” in a State of Affairs where a Controller cannot do squad? May be, its a stepping stone to Run for a City Position. . .until sent to Jail on ” corruption chargés”! What real difference does the Office of Controller makes anyways!..
