Repairs to Sandy damage at Rye Playland boardwalk nearly complete

Workers Friday were replacing the last major section of the south boardwalk at Playland, which was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. The entire south boardwalk is expected to be complete next week. The pier has also reopened.

The north boardwalk was completely destroyed by the storm and the Westchester County Parks Department is starting internal discussions about the options for replacing it, said Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia. The north boardwalk has been wiped out three times since the early 1990s so the department is considering other kinds of walkways that may be more resilient.

  1. Are they really repairing the boardwalk or just putting new planks over damaged beams to make it look pretty for election?? I think our legislatures and town leaders need to pay closer attention.

  2. Why is that worthless Commissioner Kathy OConnor never quoted in any story? It seems the real worker – who worked his way up from a low level position in the parks dept – is the current Deputy Peter Tartaglia. People who know say he is a real man and not a political hack in Astorino’s administration.
