Former Sen. Darrel Aubertine recently resigned as commissioner of the state Department of Agriculture and Markets and has taken a $135,000 job as a special assistant for external affairs with Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
DiNapoli and Aubertine are both former state Assembly members.
“Darrel’s impressive career in government coupled with his ability to find common-sense solutions to complex issues will greatly enhance our efforts to address the challenges faced by our local communities and broaden our policy efforts on a wide range of issues,” DiNapoli said in a statement.
DiNapoli said Aubertine will develop policy related to “agriculture, economic development, affordable housing, higher education, K-12 education and local fiscal stress. He will also coordinate education outreach programs for government, business, community and not-for-profit organizations.”
