Sen. Greg Ball: NY’s treatment of vets a “dereliction of duty”

State Sen. Greg Ball took to cable television to push for a bill that would give preference for state contracts to businesses owned by disabled veterans, telling MSNBC that New York’s treatment of veterans returning from combat amounts to a “dereliction of duty.”

Ball, R-Patterson, Putnam County, made a Christmas Eve stop in MSNBC’s Manhattan studios to plug the New York Jobs for Heroes Act, which passed the Senate this year but wasn’t put to a vote in the state Assembly.

“We do a very good job at telling 18- and 19-year-old men and women, getting them to raise their right hand to say, ‘I’m willing to fight and die for this country,'” Ball said. “We do not do a good job transitioning them back into this economy.”

The bill, sponsored by Ball and Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, D-Brooklyn, would require state agencies to set a goal of awarding 3 percent of contracts to businesses owned by service-disabled veterans. Ball launched a petition for the bill earlier this month.

About Author

  1. In 12 days hundreds of people of which many are paid activist from states other then NY, will grab their cell phones, their plastic protest signs made from natural gas, their lap tops and I-pads all made possible by natural gas. These protestors will board busses filled with fossil fuels achieved from deeply drilled shale beds because of the technology using (HVHF) High Volume Hydraulic Fracturing, A process that for the first time in 6 decades allowed the United States of America to produce more gas and oil here at home then we imported. They will stand in the halls of Albany where speeches will be made and stories will be told of how drilling for gas has polluted water wells wherever drilling has taken place. they will flaunt a “List of The Harmed” that has been proven not only to be largely fictional, but was penned mostly by one person based on the idea of making such a list. A plastic water jug filled with brown water will be held up and you will be asked… Would You Drink This Water? There are problems abound with this protest. Here is the list:

    1. No water aquifer has ever been polluted by HVHF – (fracking), As testified too by District 2 former head of the Environmental Protection agency as well as every environmental oversight agency in a hearing held in Congress in February of 2011.
    2. Going on 6 years this brown jug of water has made hundreds of appearances in Albany. Despite pleas every time this jug showed up in Albany to our law makers, this jug was never confiscated to test the authenticity of the claim this stage prop presented. Ask why our lawmakers failed to test this jug that has held NY Landowners hostage going on 6 years from accessing their minerals.
    3. The jug was made famous by Craig and Julie Saunter From Dimock PA who begged the EPA to come test their private water well in Dimock PA, Holding that brown water jug up at the request of NYRAD at town meetings all across NY and PA claiming drilling filled their well with chemicals and 3 types of weapons grade uranium. They tested their well and 60 others and found that the wells were not polluted from fracking and soon disappeared to Tennessee keeping their mineral rights and buying 30+ more leased acres in NY and are selling the home but will also kept the gas rights.
    4. Before the Saunters were tossed aside by NYRAD after taking a measly settlement Craig Stevens wrote on Julies facebook account I will carry the jug. From what I understand he works for the legal community drumming up public opinion to support frivolous lawsuits brought on by people who may or may not have a claim.
    5. Paid Professors from Cornell University (Holworth & Ingraffea) near Ithaca NY, Have written several papers that were done using computor models and old technology that were thourly debunked (proven unfounded) by their own peers as well as industry and university scientist who actually went to gas wells in different stages of construction and production and found that Holworth and Ingraffea’s numbers were highly exaggerated.
    6. The United States Geological Society has put out a study that has said due to fracking…. the air in PA & NY is the cleanest it has been since 1992.
    7. NYS government is retrofitting to coal plants in Upstate NY to convert from coal to gas. Ironically one of these plant powers Ithaca NY where outspoken anti activist and NYS- legislator Barbara Lifton-D has been silent on the issue because closing the plant would mean a huge job loss and tax base hit to the county.
    8. The NRC-Nuclear Regulatory Commission, recently came out with a statement about NY’s Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant, Stating that if the 30 year old nuclear power plant were to seek a building permit today, they would be denied because of the proximity of the location near millions of people, further stating their is no viable evacuation plan in place should a disaster like the one they had in Japan were to happen in NYC. Perhaps this is why Governor Cuomo wants to convert it to natural gas.
    9. The politicians from NYC are pushing and getting a Seneca Falls CNG storage facility to facilitate the conversion of NYC taxi’s and delivery trucks to convert from diesel and oil to natural gas to combat the more then 13,000 deaths and tens of thousands of cases of reported asthma annually in NYC. Industry has built and are building compressor stations and pipeline to move PA gas to NYC so as to convert apartment building to natural gas to greatly reduce the effects of oil, kerosene, and diesel is having on the residents of NYC’s health.
    10. I could report on all kinds improvements and projects on NYS’s conversions to natural gas from all othe fuels but the real story here is the hypocrisy of this protest at the State of the State address being held Jan 8th but the natural gas industries best costumers…. the protestors themselves. If not for the draw of Hollywood celebrities and Yoko Ono who’s 8,000 square ft Dakota apartment building that was converted to Natural Gas and paid protestors I am sure this issue would have been decided long ago

  2. In item 5 of Mr. Furman’s post, he mentions Anthony Ingraffea and Bob Howarth of Cornell whose “research” has been thoroughly discredited by their peers from Cornell. Professors Lawrence Cathles, Larry Brown, and Andrew Hunter showed what kind of psuedo science Ingraffea and Howarth believe in –

  3. What is it really all about? Greg Ball wants to be County Executive and he will use his position in the NYS Senate to get as much PR as possible. Ball does not want to spend his campaign money for PR when he can come up with great PR issues week after week at no cost to him. The goal is to become county executive and then run for U.S. Congress at a later date. This is much deeper then you think. Ball is campaigning on our dime as he runs from town to town giving out pork checks for do good projects that we the taxpayer foot the bill for and Ball smiles and tells you it is from him. This is deep. Keep your eyes and ears open and keep both hands on your wallet.

  4. I would have to say Mr. Ball is derelict of his duty to ensure equal protection before the law. Men and women who honorably serve are worthy of their hire and should be properly paid by the Federal government (I personally, do not believe they are paid what they are worth, nor are disabled veterans cared for at a level appropriate to their sacrifice). It’s not up to the states to factionalize the interests of their citizens in order to make up for the shortcomings of incompetent Federal leadership.

  5. Greate pieces. Keep posting such kind of info on your blog.
