Westchester, Rye officials to meet Thursday on Playland legal hurdle

The mayor of Rye will meet with Westchester County officials Thursday morning to try to work out the legal issues that are holding up the review of an overhaul of Playland Park.playlandicecasino

Rye has asserted that it must grant a slew of permits for Sustainable Playland to build its envisioned improvements at Playland, particularly for a new field house, and should be running the environmental review. The county argues it has sole review authority.

Rye Mayor Joseph Sack is scheduled to meet with County Executive Rob Astorino and Board of Legislators Chairman Michael Kaplowitz at 11:30 a.m.

A legal fight over jurisdiction could draw out what has already been a nearly four-year process the county has been undergoing to pick a new operator for its park. A review of the plans by the Westchester Board of Legislators came to a screeching halt Tuesday after Rye sent a letter to the county last week making its arguments. Click here for a story.
