Gerald McKinstry
Gerald McKinstry has been a staff writer for The Journal News in both Westchester and Rockland counties since 2004. He currently covers Westchester County government and politics in the region. He's also covered many other communities on both sides of the Hudson River. Before that, he was an editor with The Standard Star and Review Press, two weekly newspapers affiliated with The Journal News in southern Westchester. He started that post in 2001. He is also an adjunct professor of journalism at Iona College. McKinstry grew up in a hilly place called Yonkers, "a city," as the saying goes, "where nothing is on the level." He is married and has two children.

Washington correspondent Brian Tumulty has worked at the Gannett Washington Bureau since October 1992 covering the economy, taxes and organized labor as well as serving as Washington correspondent for newspapers in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Born in Queens and a graduate of Fordham University, Tumulty spent 15 years in Westchester covering Yonkers city hall and reporting on business.

He was previously the Rockland office mobile journalist and Orangetown reporter, and has covered Rockland higher education and West Point for The Journal News. Before coming to TJN, he worked as a reporter at the Journal Inquirer in Manchester, Conn., and the North Adams Transcript in North Adams, Mass. He was born and raised in Wynnewood, Pa., a Philadelphia suburb, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English writing: nonfiction and political science.
